Otoplasty

Oto is from the Greek word for ear, plasty meaning molded or formed.  Therefore otoplasty is a term used to describe surgical procedures that change the shape of the ear.  Across cultures, there are various beliefs regarding the ears and what is considered attractive.  If you have concerns about the appearance of your ears, it may be worthwhile to have a discussion with your facial plastic surgeon to see if your goals are attainable.

There are many reasons to change the shape of an ear.  These range from congenitally prominent ears,  ears which are partially absent or malformed, traumatic injuries to the ear, or need for reduction of an earlobe after removal of earrings designed to stretch out the earlobe.

If you have concerns about the appearance of your ears or wonder if anything can be done to improve the appearance, schedule a consultation with Dr. Ostrom to discuss in detail the possibilities.
